Today’s Topic: Your Place of Blessing

Scripture: “Return to your mistress and act as you should, for I will make you into a great nation.” – Genesis 16:9–10, TLB

Today’s Word
In Genesis 16, when Abraham and Sarah couldn’t have a baby, it was Sarah’s idea to have Abraham sleep with her maid, Hagar. When Hagar got pregnant, rather than be happy about it, Sarah mistreated Hagar so badly that she fled into the desert. The problem was that Hagar left her place of blessing. She had no way to survive in the desert.

An angel appeared to her and was saying, “Go back to your place of blessing and serve Sarah. I’m making you into a great nation.” Sometimes you have to stay when it’s hard, to forgive those who do you wrong, and be good to people who are not being good to you. Being in the right place is better than getting your way. But notice how merciful God is.

At times we leave where we’re supposed to stay, or we stay where God wants us to leave. The good news is that God is going to send an angel to keep you from missing your place of blessing. You’re going to hear that still small voice inside, telling you what to do. Don’t ignore it.

Prayer For Today
“Father, thank You for being the merciful God who can take my messes and the things I’ve run away from and turn them into miracles when I return and face them. Thank You that Your grace is always there to help me. I believe that You are working all things together for my good. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

When negative thoughts come, the enemy needs a host. He needs someone that will welcome that thought, entertain it, make it feel comfortable. He brings thoughts of fear, worry, and doubt, waiting to see if you’ll take it. Will you host it? He gives the thought, “You’ll never rise any higher. You’ve seen your best days.” Those thoughts won’t do any harm if you don’t welcome them, you don’t dwell on them.

The only power he has is when he finds someone to accept, to host, to believe. This is the one time it’s good to be a bad host. You have to say, “Hey worry, hey defeat you’re not welcome here. You’re not going to feed off of me. You’re not getting any of my nutrients, any of my faith, any of my joy, any of my vision.” You have to starve those negative thoughts. They will have no effect if you don’t feed them.

It’s important to deal with thoughts quickly. Don’t let them linger in your mind. Thoughts create images until you start to see what you’re thinking. If you dwell on that thought, “You’re never going to get well; you saw the report.” Before long, you’ll see yourself going downhill, see yourself at your funeral. “You’ll never meet the right person. You’ll always be single.” If you let that infection take root, you’ll see yourself at eighty years old still single, lonely, discouraged, unfulfilled. Do yourself a favor and remove that thought quickly. It may seem harmless, just a little discouragement, a little negativity, but thoughts carry infection. Thoughts can contaminate your future.
